The evidence
Jean Van Hamme built XIII on the premise of The Bourne Identity, the first Bourne novel: a wounded man with no memory, washed up and taken in, who discovers he has the skills of a trained killer and may be one, and is hunted by a conspiracy while he works out who he was.
