Terms of Service

By accessing, browsing, or creating a contributor account on the Media Influence Map (mediainfluencemap.com), you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms of Service and by our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, you are not permitted to use our services. Browsing the map is open to everyone; contributing requires an account.

To contribute you create an account either with an email and password or by continuing with Google. You may optionally enable two-factor authentication for extra protection. You are responsible for keeping your credentials confidential and for all activity carried out under your account. Tell us promptly if you suspect unauthorised access. Your account has a public profile page, visible to anyone signed in, showing your name, picture, bio, the hubs you have joined, your recent comments and how much of your work is on the map. If you add a profile picture you confirm you have the right to use that image; we may remove one that is unlawful, impersonates somebody, or is used to harass.

You keep ownership of what you submit, but by contributing a work, connection, vote, correction, or a post or reply in a hub discussion you grant MIM a worldwide, royalty-free licence to display, store, moderate, edit and distribute it as part of the public graph, including in aggregate and de-identified form. Contributions accepted into the map may remain after you close your account so the shared record stays intact, and so may your posts in a discussion, with your name removed from them, because a conversation other people took part in should not lose half of itself. You confirm you have the right to submit what you contribute and that it does not infringe anyone else's rights.

Your library is a personal shelf of works you have read, watched or played. It is yours, not a contribution: it never becomes part of the public graph, it is not moderated, and nothing on it is licensed to us beyond storing and showing it back to you. Your wishlist works the same way and holds what you want to read, watch or play next. Each is visible on your profile unless you turn it off, with “Keep my library private” and the matching wishlist setting, from those pages or your profile settings. A wishlist can also be shared on purpose, through a link containing a random token that works without an account: once you send that link, treat the list as public, and you can revoke it by turning sharing off. Deleting your account deletes both lists with it. Shelving a work says nothing about whether the connections around it are accurate, and we draw no conclusion from it beyond your own Discover suggestions.

A hub is a corner of the map with a conversation attached. Joining one is a public act: your name appears in that hub’s member list and on your own profile, and you can leave at any time. Anything you post in a hub, and any comment you leave on a connection, is public, is signed with your account, and is subject to the same moderation as a contribution: it can be edited or removed, and a moderator or the hub’s own moderator may remove a post that breaks these terms. Hubs are for discussing the works and the connections between them. Harassment, hate speech, spam, advertising and posting other people’s private information are not allowed anywhere on MIM and least of all here.

The platform exists to track transparent, chronological creative lineages. Coordinated manipulation, multi-account (sybil) submissions, automated scraping or farming scripts, and the deliberate injection of fabricated or knowingly false relationships to distort the map are prohibited. Moderation happens in the open, and contributions can be reviewed, discussed, supported, challenged, or rejected by the community.

⚠️ Serious or repeated violations may result in removal of contributions and suspension or termination of the account.

The MIM name, interface, design, and underlying software are the property of the Media Influence Map and its authors. The factual graph itself, which works exist and how they connect, is a community resource: you may reference or share it for research, journalism, and education with clear attribution and a link back to mediainfluencemap.com. Individual works, cover images, and metadata remain the property of their respective rights holders and are shown for reference and identification only.

Connections are proposed and evaluated by the community and by automated chronology checks; they represent evolving interpretation, not settled fact, and the service is provided 'as is' without warranties of accuracy, availability, or uptime. To the fullest extent permitted by law, MIM is not liable for indirect or consequential damages arising from use of the platform or reliance on its data.

We may update these Terms as the platform evolves; the 'Last Updated' date reflects the current version, and continued use after a change means you accept it. These Terms are governed by the laws of Portugal, and the courts of Portugal have jurisdiction, without prejudice to any mandatory consumer-protection rights you have under the law of your own country of residence.
