The evidence
Twin Peaks takes its dead girl from Preminger's film: Laura Palmer shares Laura Hunt's name, the mynah bird that witnessed her murder is called Waldo, and the vet who treats it is Dr Lydecker, after Waldo Lydecker. Lynch and Frost have spoken of the homage.
