The evidence
Taika Waititi's film is credited as based on Christine Leunens's novel about a Hitler Youth boy who discovers that his mother is hiding a Jewish girl in their house. It turns the book's dark story into satire, adding Jojo's imaginary friend, a comic Hitler.
