The evidence
Robert Eggers built the film on the Amleth legend in Saxo Grammaticus and named the Old Norse sources he drew on: the Poetic Edda, the Prose Edda, Egil's Saga, Grettir's Saga, Eyrbyggja saga and the Saga of Hrolf Kraki.
