About the work

木蘭詩 (Ballad of Mulan)

When the emperor's draft lists her ageing father's name, Mulan buys a horse and saddle and goes to war in his place, disguised as a man. After twelve years of campaigns she refuses the honours offered at court, asks only for a camel to ride home, and puts on her old clothes again to the amazement of her comrades, who never knew she was a woman.
