AdaptationHIGH

Brotherhood exists specifically to follow the manga. The 2003 anime caught up with Arakawa's serialisation while it was still running and invented its own second half with her blessing; Brotherhood, made after the manga finished, adapts all 108 chapters in order. That is why two long series of the same name exist and neither is a remake of the other in the usual sense: one is an original ending, the other is the author's. The Ishvalan war, the homunculi's origin, Father, and the Promised Day are the manga's and reach the screen only here.

About the work

鋼の錬金術師 FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST (Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood)

Set in the Fullmetal Alchemist universe.

Two brothers break alchemy's one unbreakable law trying to bring their mother back, and pay for it with a body and a limb. Their search for a philosopher's stone that could undo it walks them straight into what their own country did to win its wars. Made after the manga had an ending so it could follow the whole story, which the 2003 adaptation could not, and routinely voted the best anime ever made.
