About the work

Gypsy: A Musical Fable

A mother with no talent of her own drives her two daughters through the last years of vaudeville, and when the one she has groomed leaves, she turns the other into a stripper. It ends with the mother alone on a bare stage performing the career she never had. Taken from Gypsy Rose Lee's memoir, and the least sentimental thing in the canon.
