Mary O'Hara wrote My Friend Flicka from her years on a ranch in Wyoming: a boy tames a wild filly from a line of untamable horses, in a book as much about horse breeding and the range as about him.

About the work

Flicka

This is a series.

My Friend Flicka is the first book of a trilogy in which Ken McLaughlin, who fails at everything his father values, is allowed to choose a foal and picks the one from the untameable line. This first book is the template for the American boy-and-his-horse story; filmed in 1943 and again in 2006.
