About the work

The Unparalleled Adventure of One Hans Pfaall

A strange balloon descends over Rotterdam and drops a letter from Hans Pfaall, a bellows-mender who vanished five years earlier to escape his creditors. The letter tells how he built a balloon and an apparatus to condense the thin air of space, and travelled for nineteen days to the Moon.
