Atlantis: The Lost Empire

Gary Trousdale and Kirk Wise chose to make an adventure in the manner of Jules Verne rather than another musical, and set out to show the Atlantis that Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea only glimpses.

Gary Trousdale said the end of Atlantis, the waters receding from the sunken city, was directly inspired by the ending of The Castle of Cagliostro.

Kirk Wise and Gary Trousdale wanted a widescreen action adventure in the old manner and named Raiders of the Lost Ark as their inspiration.
