This is a series.
An infant is sent away from an exploding planet, raised on a Kansas farm, and grows into a reporter who can fly. The film takes three acts to get him to Metropolis and is in no hurry, which is why it works: by the time he catches a falling helicopter the audience believes in him. Richard Donner's instruction to his crew was "verisimilitude", and it set the terms for every origin film since.
